Thank you for the opportunity to choose this month's writing prompt. I love these monthly prompts and have thought about my topics for awhile now and finally came up with these. I hope you like them and have fun coming up with a short story, poem or you never know....the beginning of the next best selling children's book.

the circus
an uninvited relative or guest
a rubber chicken

Please post your response in the Children's Share Your Work (SYW) thread, but leave us a post here so we know you're there.

Please join in. Don't be shy. It's fun and the more posts we have the funner it is. :D

Great topics to start the summer ideas flowing, Mike. I want to add that writers don't have to use all three topics, but it's fun to try!

I don't usually do prompts because I think I suck at them, but I'll give this a shot! I can't post it,though :(

Only 30 more posts, darkdawn! Do a few crits and post some in the games threads. Oh, but don't forget to write that story! :)

I hope I can give this one a go. I feel bad I've been too swamped with other things the last couple months to participate.

Me too, Chris, although I have been writing. No, really! I have!

Great prompt, Butterbean.

Hello darkdawn:hi: Go over to children's SYW and post some crits to the posts there. Read some of our AWers work and post some responses.

Go over to the newbee forms and say Hello, welcome others and meet a few people in the pub. Your posts will be up in no time.

We would love to see some new prompt posters. It's fun!

Darkdawn:

Jed (the other Writing for Kids mod) and I decided ages ago that we'd allow everyone - even the newbiest of newbies - to participate in the prompts. So, you can totally post your prompt.

BUT... this hasn't actually come up yet, as no one with less than fifty posts has completed a prompt response and wanted to post it. So, I'm not entirely sure how to let you do it.

I'll go ask the Powers The Be for instructions, and I'll get back to you. :D

Sorry, I've been so crazy-busy with work that I haven't had time for much else lately.

And June is going to be just as busy. So, I may not be able to do the prompt this month, either. But it's a good one! I love the circus. :D

darkdawn (and anyone else who doesn't yet have the authority to create new threads in SYW):

As I said before, we're happy to let you participate in the writing prompts. The Starting new threads in SYW - fifty post count requirement thread provides the solution:

Added: on the subject of writing challenges that take place within SYW, and new members wanting to participate but being unable to post their challenge because they don't have 50 posts yet... there's a very easy way to get around this:

Reply in the challenge thread -- it would help if you include your story title and challenge details in the subject line -- and then use the report post button
report.gif
or PM a SYW moderator or supermod to request that your post be moved into a new thread in the same forum. (Any subsequent posts in the challenge thread in reply to your post, will also be moved into the new thread.)

So, just post your prompt response here, in this thread. Then, hit the
report.gif
button to the left of your post. In the message box, just leave a message requesting that your post be moved to a new thread in SYW. A SuperMod will come along and move the post for you.

Make sense? PM me if you have any questions.

Mine has run aground. So far, all it's got is a couple of orphans and the promise of a circus. The rubber chicken and the unwanted relative/guest are strangely reluctant to put in an appearance.

I mentioned the prompt to my husband, and to my surprise he came home today with a half-written story that has all the elements. Guess it was a slow day at work! He said, "That's why I'll never be a writer--now that I've worked out how it ends, I've lost interest."

I told him he has to finish it. If he does, I'll post it for him.

I wrote my story today and was going to sleep on it so I could review it with fresh eyes, but I thought, "What the hoo-ha, seize the day!" So it's posted in SYW, and if it's clunky, I apologize.

Lots of great stories already and it's only the 3rd. Yay gang!

Have a great Friday. :)

Hello kidlit gang, everyone has done a great job with this month's prompt. They are all wonderful entries. Thanks go out to everyone.

I stumped myself (until now) with the rubber chickens and my brain is bouncing around like a BB in a boxcar.

I have finished and posted my prompt entry. I hope you will go to children's SYW and read, comment or crit. Either way I hope you enjoy yet another story from Mikey's World.:D

I posted my story in the SYW. Have at it folks.

I also need to mention that I have a clown phobia. And when I told my hubby about the prompt, he showed me this...

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q307/Norman_Adams/AbandonedClownTrain.png

I wrote my story to avoid clowns. But I have to add that I really liked the bibliotherapy clowns-are-people-too story in SYW. I think that was jilly61's. Nicely done.

Even with the clowns, I have enjoyed reading everyone's entries so far. I like writing prompts because it takes your writing to places and topics you wouldn't go usually to for whatever personal likes/dislikes/just didn't occur to me reasons.

Can someone tell me why my when I copy and paste my prompt the print is so tiny?

How can I make it larger so it's easier to read? Now remember.....I'm computer stupid!:D

You should be able to do so by editing your post, highlighting the text, and changing the AW font size. See the nifty tool bar when you post a message (well, unless you use the "quick reply" box).

You can have small font. Or regular font. Or big font. :D
