I almost never blog about writing. I talk about politics and everything under the sun. Opinions. I have 'em.

This week's post was on marijuana prohibition:

My blog has very little writing, but loads of terrific old photographs and posters!

I'm not able to log in here often due to health issues, but I was able to start a blog recently. Although my interest is animals and nature, the first post is the true story of surviving an F4 tornado during the April 27, 2011 severe weather outbreak. It's lengthy, starting before the hit and covering the aftermath also (which isn't really over yet) but most are reading it in sections. It's not a fun story, but it does come straight from inside a storm and the destruction it left.

Another new blogger here. Mine's not really a personal blog, though. AndSoButThen.com is "a social media storytelling experiment" where readers pitch ideas for what happens next in 140 characters or less. So twitter will feature heavily. I might expand to other platforms later.

It's a little bit like a Choose Your Own Adventure, but it's much more open-ended. I'm hoping to feature guest bloggers when the blog finds its voice, too.

Thanks for looking! http://AndSoButThen.com

x0 blog seeking to expand

Started a blog regarding my first novel x0. The novel is interactive in the sense that it is only published electronically and it includes a fair number of live links to photos, essays, news articles and music. This interactive aspect was prompted by the fact that a lot of the plot hinges on data about Nigeria, and I figured that some readers would be far more curious about that information than others.

I am looking to expand, and to feature short blurbs about other speculative fiction books, particularly any that share my sub-genre of magical realism or involve travel or another real (non-imaginary) culture.

If interested and a good fit, please contact me!

Me too, me too!

The Tex Files

Recent topics include:
  • five reasons why your book is better at losing weight than you are
  • the marketing history of cake mix, and how it can help with your writing
  • one major problem with Snow White and the Huntsman
  • my quest to conquer cultural stereotypes in my writing, as envisioned in Paper Mario terms
My big interest is in figuring out what makes good storytelling in general (in books, movies, games, whatever), and talking about some of the challenges that arise with spec-fic in particular. (Like seriously, we keep using the outcast/orphan/chosen-one to emphasize that it's okay to be different and special, and that's awesome, but how about we put down the half-dragons and were-faeries for a minute and show an actual, bona-fide fat kid saving the world? Or better yet, a half-dragon fat kid!)

... but the short story is, I blog for self-expression, and because I'm not allowed to put truck-nuts on the Prius.

Finally got my act together and decided which direction to go in with my blog. So now it's a Third Culture Kid's perspective of and thoughts on Helsinki. Plus my laughable attempts at comedy, which I'm hopeless at but keep trying to do. In that vein we have:
1. A dysfunctional Easter European family
2. A small community in the forest where interesting things happen when one of its own residents moves back in after a long absence and brings his young, gorgeous wife.
3. What do you do when you suddenly discover that you have a half brother? You pack your bags and follow him to his hometown, so you can learn more about your father's life before you were born.

I started my blog back in May, so it is still fairly new. Just some random musings on my writing and art, my WIP, some historical stuff, and every Sunday night at midnight a new random song of the week (of course, by my choosing). keskedgell.blogspot

I moved my blog over to my website from wordpress.com a week or two ago, so there's not a lot of content yet. My posts are varied. I write book reviews occasionally, post something I've created (art) every Wednesday, and whatever else I feel like sharing. Sunday's are for Other Worlds--my micro-fiction serial.
