Crack the Spine is now accepting submissions!

Crack the Spine loves the written word. Some might say we're in love with the written word. But that's just a silly rumor. We seek to publish diverse and sharp literary works, including flash fiction, micro-fiction, poetry, short stories, personal essays, and book reviews. We don't care if it's four words or four thousand words, if it's charged with artistry, we want to publish it. Given the choice, we will always select madness over method.

Crack the Spine publishes material on our website once a week. Works published online are automatically eligible to be selected for later publication in our print magazine and/or ebooks. Print materials will be published on a quarterly basis.

Visit us at www.crackthespine.com for details!

That's the thing with forums like AW, isn't it? Most of us at AW won't publish in a 'zine hasn't published anyone yet. So, if you can't promote your 4daluv 'zine in writing forums, where do you promote it?

Well, I'd be quite happy to take a chance. But I would like to see a little more information made available first.

What sort of rights are involved? Is it possible you could offer contract information on your website? Also, the range of work you're seeking is very broad.

I completely understand the concern with submitting to a newbie lit magazine. Here's the basic story...
We're looking for somewhat off-beat material that encourages readers to look at common situations in a very different way. Sweeping tales of romance, science fiction terrors and sappy love sonnets addressed to kids or kittens need not apply. As for our organization, we are a small group of committed lit-heads with a huge passion for getting new, undiscovered writers a bit of print time. We've been there... writers have a slew of notebooks crammed full of little bits and pieces that never see the light of day. We firmly believe that these unpolished, unfinished bits of lit are some of the juiciest things writers ever produce. We want to give writers a place to be featured, feel appreciated and find a sense of community. As for our copyright policy, if your work is accepted to Crack the Spine, we hold first publication rights for our online digital magazine. After initial digital publication, rights revert back to you. Once your work appears in our digital magazine, it is eligible to be published in print or eBook later on, but if your work is selected for print/eBook pub, we will contact you and request that you re-confirm your willingness to have it included. Basically, we're not looking to steal anyone's work. Your writing is just that... your writing. We just want to give you a way to feature it.

More More Yes Please More!

We've received some excellent submissions at Crack the Spine Literary Magazine over the past few months. But the sad truth is, we're now addicted to full inboxes. Opening up our submissions files to a mere dozen stellar stories and poems just isn't enough anymore. Call us greedy. Call us junkies. Call us... whatever. Seriously, we're unshockable at this point. But please keep sending us your short stories, flash fiction and poetry!

We are currently in the final editing stage of our first quarterly print publication and our online digital issues are still going up each week like clockwork. If you'd like to be a part of our endeavor to offer a platform for writers and artists, please check us out at www.crackthespine.com. Full submission guidelines are available and please note that Crack the Spine requests first publication rights only from our contributors. All rights revert back to the brilliant artist immediately following digital publication.
