It depends on the teen.
It also depends on where you were raised.

I was receiving sex anatomy education by Grade 6, the basics of sex itself by Grade 8, and safe sex techniques all throughout high school. My Grade 9 health teacher demonstrated the elasticity of condoms by stretching one over her hand past her elbow. My Grade 12 CALM (Career and Life Management) teacher gave us pointers on browsing porn without picking up viruses.

Needless to say, everyone in my high school was prepared. The first sex scene I ever read did not surprise me. Still made me blush, but it wasn't like some forbidden fruit I stumbled upon. Oral sex, as long as it wasn't throw in for no reason, would not make me dislike a story.

That sounds like an awesome high school.

Probably a lot of authors are scared of writing what may be considered "erotica for kids," you know what I mean? I feel like this is one of those things that a teen author could get away with more easily than an author who is way older. If a teenage girl author describes a blowjob in excruciatingly long and loving detail, it would probably be "Edgy," if a 50 year old dude did it, Chris Hansen would probably be knocking at his door.

But I think as authors, we should just write whatever we feel like and let the editors and publishers sort it out.

I would be a bit hesitant about the oral sex thing simply because the parents are still buying the books, and those kind of books usually don't make AR reading list. I mean Twilight sells.

And so do the books with oral sex. Also? Teens choose their own books to read.

Melvyn Burgess, "Junk", contains fourteen year olds that get trapped in heroin abuse, and the female MC Gemma gets money for her addiction through prostitution.

It's one of the best YA books around, and still sells a lot, even if it was published in the 1990s.

i bought my own books as a teen with allowance and baby sitting money, etc, etc. also, whenever someone else did buy me books, most of the time i'm the one who got to choose what i wanted to bring home (or be given or whatever).
