I don't know if this guy is having a bad day or what, but there is no debating this. I haven't been around very long (my join date is misleading), so I'm entirely uncertain as to what the protocols are for moderation, but this argument is only going to escalate until we find a mod to rattle a banhammer. This guy responded with insults immediately and I feel compelled to point out in addition that his argument is also so full of holes as to not exist as an actual argument at all. There's no talking to that.
Okay. I hereby retract the "dumb" part. The rest stands, however.

How do you expect to write even a good short story if you already show such little reading understanding?
Dude..really - you are talking to people who have sold short stories, novellas, novels etc. There are people here who have won awards for their stuff. Do you really mean to insult us all?

Or are you just trolling (thinking the second myself)

Quote:
And just so you know in future what you are talking about: The Chronicles of Narnia do have good chapter titles.
Not in my copy. It starts with 'Chapter one'
Quote:
I'm sorry, but you no chapter namers really need to put up better arguments instead of just making false claims.
Not entirely sure what this sentence means (does no = know? even so, it makes little sense)

Or do you mean people whp do not name chapters?

And er, your only arguement is you like chapter titles so...I think I may take a professional's answer (like my editor?) over some unknown bloke who has a snit fit

For you

Not for the publishing industry, not for classic writers, not for a lot of people. For you. The industry exists to make books people will like - and they do. And have, and many of those books have both stood the test fo ttime and had no chapter title.

Are you really telling me Frankenstein isn't a classic because it has no chapter titles? Or that you like it less because it doesn't?

Quote:
But, as I earlier said, almost any fiction book can be enhanced by them.
Ot be made worse by them.

It really depends on the book. And the titles.

But chpater titles do not make a bad book good. They may (possibly) make an okay book a bit better.

They are the frills. Like thise silly things they put on lamb ribs - they make it look nice. But they don't make the lamb taste any better.

If it's a great book, titles can possibly enhance it. If it's a bad book, it'll just be a bad book with titles.

The meat is the damn story.

Quote:
And you are 100% correct that I shouldn't put down those that can't or won't use chapter titles. And generally, I don't. Unless they show me aggression or mock my opinion with "sarcasm".
People are allowed to respond to your assertions how they like, as long as they do not disrespect the other poster

A rule YOU violated.

Live with it.

And if they stoop to that, well let's just say they brought it upon themselves.

BY disagreeing with you without doisrespecting you? No - you stepped over the line, not anyone else - because only YOU made it personal

Maybe you need to read the Newbie Guide.

And I still call bollocks. Because it just ain't true.

Not really - you are entertaining me far too much. It's the best laugh I've had all week.

PS wuthering heights. Rob Roy.

How much further do you want me to go?

Okay, locking this thread for two reasons. First, the OP is banned and can't participate. Second, asshattery abounds. Andreas will be taking a short break now.
