Hahaha. I thought I was the only one.

Sometimes it really bugs me when I get used to a person's avatar and then that person changes it. That really shatters the equilibrium in my world.

Sometimes I wonder how much a person's avatar affects the way I interpret his/her posts. I know there is an influence, and it's probably more than I'd like to admit.

Yes, anyone who looks like Ms. Manson should automatically get a free pass....

I get attached to avatars, too, but I also process names, so I don't forget who is who (especially with really cool inventive names like, for example, crunchyblanket--how could anyone ever forget that? )

Also I attach immediately to names of people I get reppies from, cuz it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and I never forget that. *sigh*

I acidentally turned avatars off once and kept arguing with the wrong person. I get "crunchyblanket" and "backslashbaby" (I think that's what it is?) mixed up without pictures. I have no idea why.

Yeah, I get emotionally attached to dispensers of reps too. Probably not very healthy of me to feel this way.

And guilt makes me extra reluctant to oppose a person. One time I overreacted to a poster because I misunderstood her comment. I apologized publicly but I still feel bad to this day. Now, she can say all kinds of things that annoy me (not that she has), and I'll probably never say anything back.

I've never gotten a mod warning here. I can think of one time specifically that I may have been close, but the situation involved more than just me and resulted in a thread-locking. So it wasn't a personalized Rhoda-cut-it-out type warning.

I like to think I burned out most of my flames in previous forums. I don't get as righteously or irrationally angry as I used to. Also, since this is a writers' forum, I think of it as a professional space. That makes a difference in how I frame my posts. (At least I try to think of it that way...)

And I also get confused/nostalgic when people change their avvies. I miss Kuwi's tophat. And that ~gorgeous~ photo of Josh Holloway that Toothpaste had when I first got here.

@missesdash: I get those two names mixed up, too, so don't feel bad. Although the constant presence of a foxy redhead in crunchy's usually keeps me straight. Although for some reason I always want to call you "em-dash." It's how I say your sn in my head. Every time.

It was Grace.

There was the scent of flowers, of wine, and the chorus of a thousand humming cicadas, and I woke on a damp hillside with a 2-year beard plastered to my face.

One does not enter such realms lightly.

I was given a week off at one site I used to belong to and wasn't even for anything good. One member claimed to be an expert on everything pitbull. When I asked her what hands on experience she had. She reported me and I was out for being antagonistic and disrespectful.

She later bragged to another member her extensive experience with pitbulls what she had read on the internet.

But this was the same site that wouldn't let me enter a post because I was using an obscene word. After a word by word search, turns out crocodile is a really dirty word. Who knew?

Needless to say I don't belong to that site anymore.

Lol I'm glad everyone else seems to to some degree see others by their avatars.

I glance at usernames though I do know peoples usernames mostly regulars, but if they have avatar they use and never change I tend to only glance at the usernames so see their username as something else like LAonion or Little_me instead of Little_e. And when people change avatars it's like my brain is thinking 'when did they change their username? lol' because I see it differently in my head.

I change my avatar every month or so. Everytime, I get comments about it, ranging from horror to "cool" to disgust. I haven't noticed that people treat me differently because of it, though most people do assume I'm male.

I knew you were female! I always check. If it's not on a person's "about me" page, I get hyperviligant until I figure it out. (Does that make me a sexist?)

I'll admit, Cory, your last avie freaked me out a bit.

The first one I ever saw of yours (the bloody/shredded face) made me a little scared of you, lol. But after reading some of your posts, I knew I didn't need to be.

So the big question is, what is your current avie eating??? Or do I want to know?

Oh I totally thought you were male. I think it's because of the name Cory and the Goya avatar (I tend to associate violent images with males).

It just goes to show how much judgment (correctly or not) people make based on visual cues.

That'd be true. Even on sites with no avatars, people assume I'm male because of my name. I've actually had one person tell me it's because of my tone.

You don't want to know...

And I don't blame you. I like to figure out other people's sex when we're discussing certain charged political topics. It helps me understand their position. Otherwise, I don't care. And it's usually, obvious, anyway.
