Has anyone else read Arcadia by Lauren Groff? Can we talk about it?
I thought it was beautifully written, although it seemed to peter out toward the end. I took special interest in this book because there is a '70s commune in my WIP, although unlike Arcadia my story isn't centered around the commune.
I'm usually not a fan of child protagonists, because so often writers seem to believe that the character's youth will garner instant sympathy, or they make the young character overly precocious. But young Bit has genuine vulnerability and a unique worldview that makes him fascinating. I also loved Groff's literary descriptions of the surrounding world, which again are something I usually hate (as all of my comments on Atonement will attest).
If you've read this novel, please comment.
