Sappy Mod Note

I'm so proud of you guys. You all did such a wonderful job. Don't be discouraged if your entry didn't get a lot of votes: it doesn't mean people didn't love it. It just means the competition was tough this year!

All the entries were imaginative and unique, which made reading them so much fun! There were aliens and merpeople and monsters, entrepreneurs and inventors and campers, bugs and frogs and dogs, mothers and brothers and demons. Great job!

Congrats everyone! Especially to the winners.

I guess I'll fess up and say I wrote The Moon is Down.

I must have really weird taste because I didn't vote for the winners (though it was really close and I was terribly conflicted).

I really enjoyed the winning entries. Feet was very creepy, and did such a good job with setting. Mish & Lynn's Star Restaurant had the perfect tween voice. And Me Against the Gleep was hilarous.

:D

ETA: And they show how diverse kidlit can be. Feet is a good example of upper-MG horror. Mish & Lynn's fits right into the tween girl category. And Me Against the Gleep would fit in with fun MG aventure books.

I just googled Gleeps. They are the cutest thing ever.

Also reminds me of that episode of Arthur, where the other kids called him the world's greatest Gleeper.

(the urban dictionary definition is very not cool, though)

Oh, WOW! Totally was not expecting to even place, due to the many great and awesome entries! Everyone did SO good this year.

I just googled Gleeps. They are the cutest thing ever.

Just googled them too, and seeing them urges me to clarify; I had absolutely NO IDEA that something called Gleep existed, or that he looks like a booger. It was just the best random-alien-sounding name I could come up with.

... Just in case this raises a few problems.

Dave

ETA: Smish read my mind

...And Me Against the Gleep would fit in with fun MG aventure books.

I'm working on adapting it into a book - in it, the MC grabs the socks just before the teleporter is activated, and gets dragged along for the weird and wild ride!

Congrats to the winners!

I'll fess up--I wrote Troublesome Frogs. I'll take fifth place for my first short story ever :) I had fun writing it. Thanks for the opportunity.

I actually laughed out loud when I read "methane-emitter."

There are countless stories about mermaids becoming girls, so I found the idea of a shark turning into a boy to be unique and interesting. Feet would definitely make a great full length book. Congrats to all of the entrants and winners!
