Kind of new only not

Hello everyone. I'm not really new, but it has been so long since I was last here (two or three years), that I almost feel like a new member.

When I was last here, I was still writing my first MS with a lot to learn, some of which I learned here. Since then I published my book and I'm currently working on the second book in the series.

I'm also a wife, mother, and ruler of the world inside my head (when my characters let me be).

Mpenguinn, do you have the same problem? Or are you one of those lucky writers who's characters are well behaved and stick to an outline? I tried an outline once. My characters looked at it, laughed and threw it away and I was left to humbly follow them and write what they told me to.

So now I let them know how the story should start, how it needs to end, and a two or three key scenes that really need to happen. Most of the time they agree with me on those points but insist on taking their own path to get to those points. Other times they refuse to accept one scenes and skirt right around it. Like when I wanted to kill off one character, they refused to move forward until I put that notion out of my head.
