Unusual situation. I submitted three e-books to Draft2Digital to get them onto Apple's iTunes bookstore. All three had the same format with respect to this discussion. That is:

They have no TOC.
They have links to my other ebooks on Amazon on an "Also by..." page.

Apple rejected the first book because it has no TOC, and they explained why they need one. I understand that and can fix it.

Apple rejected he second book because it has links to other ebooksellers. I understand and can fix that too.

Apple accepted the third book, which is now published on the iBookstore. With those same two problems.

I'm almost afraid to fix anything.

(FWIW, all three ebooks were accepted by KOBO and Nook.)

I would think linking to another sales channel would be a no-no just on principle. How about linking to your website instead? Or your other books in the iBookstore?

I agree completely. Smashwords has the same rule. When I converted to epub, I just forgot about that page.

One of the books I was consulted on wrt epub was about Amazon.

The person who hand-verified the book for Apple rejected it for referring to Amazon . . .

It took some doing but the publisher managed to reach someone who was literate and understood that, well, yes, a book about Amazon is going to have to refer to Amazon.
