One of my high school English teachers gave me a copy of Gilead as a graduation gift. I enjoyed it; I may have to pick this one up.

Did you read Home? It's the same story told from the Boughton family point of view. It's glorious - just as perfect as Gilead.

I love her work. I loved Housekeeping, too. And I love her view of Calvin, and god and humanity.

One of those authors I've heard tons about but have so far not read.

I have seen the film of Housekeeping, though...

I didn't know there was a film - but I wikied and you're quite right, there is.

I hope it was devastatingly magically wonderful. If it wasn't, you should just say goodbye to Housekeeping and read "Gilead".

We showed the film at the University film society something like twenty-eight years ago. I saw it then and haven't since. I remember it being pretty good - though it was undervalued then, let alone now.

As an aside, I saw Roxanne (the Steve Martin film) immediately afterwards, and quite by coincidence both turned out to have been shot in the same town in Canada. They even had some of the same angles down the high street.

Anyway, back on topic. Robinson is one of a long list of writers I suspect I will like but simply haven't got to (so many books, not enough time). So will do so sometime.

I'm intrigued. Might need to buy this one.
