I'll have to miss this one too. I have my first paper due tomorrow. Although, if I can get it typed up on my break, double checked when I get home (it has to be in that pesky APA format...) I might be able to join in.

Howdy folks! I just wanted to drop a line about the chats, especially with the upcoming holidays.
Since next week is Thanksgiving for us Americans, there won't be an official chat. The next one is scheduled for December 14th, 9pm EST (or check your local listings), the only one planned for that month. We will resume the 2-per-month in January.
As always, off-Thursdays are lots of fun, so stop by every week just to chat and have virtual food!

Because I had an assignment to finish the night of the chat, and then the power went off for over 24 hours, I missed the entire discussion on Romance and Erotica in SF/F. There were some legit questions I was going to ask. Did you guys happen to log it? If not, maybe we can do an encore at the next chat?

Sadly I was late to the chat, and while there was some general writing discussion, we mostly shot the breeze.

One thing I've been thinking about is how to approach things (obects/events/concepts) that are strange to the reader.
Does it work better to take a matter-of-fact approach to the weirdness? To play it up? If playing it up, how? Imagery, made-up words, a character to whom it's all weird...?
I've seen all these approaches work, and probably others I'm not remembering, so I guess my question is more when do each of these approaches work best for a story?

Oooh, a very interesting topic, shweta. I've been thinking about those things myself while writing my new novel. I like.
I'm not sure how the chatroom works on these boards, but I noticed you need a password to get in. Or at least for me I do. Is the chatroom only for specific (privileged) people? Or was a password required because there wasn't a set date for the chat?
