A while back, Barbour Books accepted my proposal for a novel in their new mystery line. I turned the manuscript in about three weeks ago.

Last week, I heard back from the editor assigned to the line. She loved it and has asked me to write two more books, creating a series!

The books will first go into their book club (Heartsong Presents: Mysteries) and then they will market them in retail stores across the country!

I am extremely happy. Although I've worked with a few small publishers, this is my first larger, professional publisher.

It feels great. <S>

CONGRATS, Nancy! Barbour has an excellent reputation and from the things I've heard, they'll treat you well. :hooray:

Thanks, Cathy.

Barbour is soooooo much better than any experience I've had. I've already made more money with them than with all my other publishers combined...and my book isn't even out yet!!! A little hard to get used to, but I'll try. ;)

They've been wonderful. I feel as if they value me as an author, and that's a great feeling.

I wish everyone who has been hooked up with the likes of PA could experience this. It says more than all the posts we could ever write in AW. Being treated with respect versus being treated like an idiotic sucker makes you determined to stay away from companies like PA.

Great news, Nancy. For all of the newbies out there who are starting out by writing a series, this is the way to do it--knock the editor's socks off with a single story, and be rewarded by a request for a series.

Nancy, I'm expecting your editor will be sockless for some time. Contrats, and keep us posted.

Great news. It's great when an ex-PA'r makes good!

As an ex-PA'r myself, I can sympathize.

Toni,

I'm certainly not the only ex-PaAer to find success after "the dark days." <G> It just proves that PA doesn't have to define us. PA may not actually read the books they print, but what that means is that they catch good writers in their trap as well as those who have no business being published.

YOU are the only person who will decide which group you belong to, and you do it by learning your craft, working hard, AND NEVER GIVING UP.

When you believe that PA has no power to determine your future - the sky's the limit!
