Anyway, did I miss this and is it horribly true: Madonna's The English Roses book is going to be made into a movie? Don't remember where I heard or read this, and I hope it's not true.
I also read somewhere that Madonna is planning an animated movie of the book and has lined up Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, and David Bowie to do some of the voices. So, I guess it could be true.

Stormie, don't drown yourself in schnapps...unless you are forced to sit through the movie when it comes out.

Let's keep out hate directed at TO and not my Cowboys. Drew Bledsoe hasn't slapped his name on any kiddie projects and Terry Glen has been awesome.

And TO bites. I hate seeing him in the blue and silver.

I like imagining the dialogue inside "Little T. Learns What Not To Say"

Will it read like Jerry Springer?

Little T. looked at his mom. She hit her thumb with a hammer. She said "**** MOTHER****ER!"

"Mommy!" Little T. said "You can't say Mother****er! That's a bad ****ing word! ****!"

"Oh. Oh. You are right, Little T. I am sorry I said Mother****er. I will not say that again. ****, you are a goodboy, Little T!"

A good time was had by all.

Maybe I'm weird but I don't see why any of you care. If they make money for the publisher it = more placement and money for us to have a chance endowed. It means another year that publisher will be around and our books will have that outlet for our creative works.

Who cares. They aren't stopping you from publishing, they aren't filling up your slot, it's up to you and your writing abilities to get you in that slot, not anyone else to move over and make room for you.

Besides, they all use ghost writers, when a celeb's book is published, that means a writer was paid, that means more writers are earning a living. Where is this bad? Besides, he even puts her as a co-writer which means she will earn royalties instead of just a fee.

And if it takes celebs to draw crowds into the bookstores and see the other titles sitting on the shelf and have them grab more than one, that's one more book that might not have sold.

Just my take.

In this particular case, I think some of us just find it funny having T.O. put his name on a moralizing children's book.

It's a bit like if Jeffrey Dahmer had written a book about how to entertain guests, or O.J. had written a book about overcoming marital problems.

Like the cat says, the humor and snorts are not that a celebrity wrote a children's book. But when Madonna and TO are supposedly teaching morals to the kiddies...well...how could you not snort?

Okay, I can certainly see that angle of it, but not the anger toward celebs get published because of status. It's always been that way that someone of note gets pushed to the front of the crowd despite the efforts of those in the crowd. It's annoying but it has very little to no direct impact on you.

Some celebs actually do write nice children's books.

And some... well, if they were in a slush pile with the rest of us, and they were unknown, they would get the form rejection slip.

That's what irks me - shoddy writing that gets published because of a name, and people buy it because of the name, putting more money in those pockets that don't need it, and other lovely hardworking children's writers who have much better stories and make that their way of earning a living don't get the sale b/c they're NOT a name.

The rest of us need to actually know how to write.

Madonna irritates me on principle, because she is quoted as saying she decided to write children's books because "there aren't any good children's books out there".

So never, EVER, EVER will I consider purchasing a book with her name on it.

Halfway through the book, little TO goes home crying to do situps because his friend Andy wouldn't give little TO more toys. The book ends when he moves to Dallas any buys a whole bottle of Flinstone vitamins.

Actually, increasingly the celebs are NOT making enough money for publishers to cover the HIGH cost of publishing them. Sure, you get a certain amount of "sure money" when you have a celeb's name on the book -- but they also come with a high price tag since the celeb gets paid far far more than even a multi-published author. And publishers nearly always match the celeb with an expensive illustrator (even when the celeb doesn't let the illustrator's name go on the cover. Plus, expensive promotion -- all equals money that RIGHT NOW is not available for other books. Will it be available for other books in the years to come? Only if the celeb book sells in vast enough numbers to make up for the higher price.

Those high costs come out of a limited money pit -- money spent on a celeb RIGHT NOW is money not spent on a dozen other authors RIGHT NOW. It's not money dropped on the publisher by Santa. So, yes, celebrity books mean fewer worthy books in the hands of kids. Fewer worthy authors published. And ultimately not so good for the publisher's bottom line.

Talking

Funny thing is that here in the DFW area, a local sportscaster said this about the book(s). (I'm paraphrasing from memory.)

"I wonder when little T. is going to have a talk with big T?"

I just about spit juice all over my keyboard in laughter.

That had to be Hansen or Galloway.

You'd think Hansen wouldn't you? (I love that guy's perspective on sports!)

It was actually Joe Trahan, from the same station as Hansen.

Unless the publisher looks at which books brought in the most money during the past year and decides to spend more money on celebrity books and less money on others because the celebrity books are the ones bringing in the most money.
