Joining In

Good Morning:

Not only am I new to this forum, I am new to writing. I am one of those readers who has said, "I would love to write a book" and have now decided to do just that. In all honesty I may not even be any good.

. In this process I have two things: Writing is not as easy as it seems, and I don't know as much as I think I do.

If I ever get too full of myself, I need to be reminded of the above. I probably should print this out and put it about the computer

Enough rambling already. I have lurked for a bit and have learned a lot. I just wanted to come out and say hello.

Hi Connie!

There is nothing to writing except to actually sit down and do it. There is an acronym that I learned when I joined many, many moons ago. . . BIC. . . it means Butt in Chair. If you just sit down and bring out your pen or word processor and just write things will come and some of them may even surprise you.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am just getting settled in. I realized I did not say too much about myself. My name is Connie and I live near Raleigh, NC. I am married with one 20 year old step-son and a 17 month old toddler daughter. By day I am a program assistant for the state's teaching standard's commission. By night after dinner, a few loads of laundry and persuading my daughter that it really is time for bed, I write...or at least attempt to write. At this point in time, I seem to be stuck in "outline mode". I think I need a kick start of some sort.

My thoughts are to enjoy this process. I have lurked on several writer's boards and I feel lke this one here is a good fit for me.

Hello Maggie! I love Virginia - beautiful country up there! I think I am in the "figuring out" stage at this point. I have outlines for a romance and a science fiction novel. I love both genres so I have not really focused on one or the other. I also have a notebook of ideas that I would love to take further.

There are a lot of ideas around here on how to get started. Have you searched the Writing Novels forum and the Outwitting Writers Block forum? There are lots of practical ideas.

In your position, I think the hardest thing is the fatigue factor. I have no self-discipline at the end of a long day and found that I had to get up early to get writing done before my kids got up. I know one woman who got in the habit of going to bed when her kids did and got up at 4 am to write while the rest of the world was sleeping. She's a grandmother now and continues to get up early to write. She says that there are fewer distractions at that hour--no temptation to vacuum or to call anyone.

I have been to the Novel Writer's Forum and I will visit the Outrwitting Writers Block. As much as I hate the thoughts of getting up early, I know I probably would get a lot done...sigh.
