Favorite quote from an author

I just thought I'd throw this topic out there, which is what is your favorite personal quote from an author?

I'll paraphrase one from Stephen King

"Some people say I have the heart of a small child, and that's true, I keep it in a jar on my desk"

Ah SK... gotta love him!

Do you mean something the author has said in public or something he's written in his fiction?

Quotes that they themselves have said publicly.

Here's one from Mark Twain, again I'm paraphrasing:

"Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of congress, but I repeat myself"

I favour the following quote by Truman Capote:

Success as a novelist is based on three requirements: talent, luck, and discipline. Discipline is the one element of those three things that you can control, and so that is the one that you have to focus on controlling, and you just have to hope and trust in the other two.

Here's another one that I think comes from Twain, although I can't be sure if it does or if I've even got it correct:

"I get all the exercise I need by walking to the funerals of my health conscious friends"

I'd also love it if someone could tell me where "I wish I was where I am" originated from? That's of course assuming I've even got the saying right, but in either case it suits me!

Writing a novel is like making love, but it's also like having a tooth pulled. Pleasure and pain. Sometimes it's like making love while having a tooth pulled.
