New member tried to stop writing...didn't work
Hi,
Just wanted to finally say hello. I've been writing since I was a kid, everything from poetry to stories to comics to songs. After some disappointments and setbacks several years ago, and finding that I was stressing about (and, thus, not enjoying) writing, I packed it in. I figured I could just ignore that part of my life, and that it would fade away while I took on other interests that I wouldn't take so damn seriously. Now, with some life changes that have given me a fresh perspective on life, I have dusted off two YA novels -- one is complete and the other is half-done. They both need a lot of work, but I'm beginning to write again with the outlook that there is no rush, and that I do have something worthwhile to offer, and that, no, writing is not your normal 40-hour a week career, but that it is the one passion that I cannot make go away. So, here I am. It wasn't until recently that I realized I was writing what would be considered YA literature. I had never really thought about my work as such, but since it was pointed out to me, it makes perfect sense. Ever since college, every one of my work experiences have centered on working with adolescents, from teacher's aide to youth program coordinator to tutor to teacher. So it seems to make sense, and I am embracing this knowledge wholeheartedly. I am very excited to begin again. Well, just wanted to say hello. I look forward to being part of what seems to be a great group of people. -G

There were no stories, no ideas, not really, not yet. Just things unearthed from elsewhere and propped up later to help the mind get around. At the time, however, it was liquid, like a song -- nothing much. It was just a space with people in it. But one can tell a story anyway." - Lorrie Moore "nice lil' uh,narrative? beginning, middle and end?" |

You can't stop writing if you are born to do it, lol. Good luck with your renewed vigor. This is a great place to keep motivated.
