Well, I am now about 550 pages into "The Eye of..." and I find it....okay, I guess. I know it's really an unfair criticism but, imo, too many things are LoTRish.

One question I have is, does R. Jordan have a lip licking fetish?? EVERY character licks his/her lips, some a few times. Did anybody else notice this?

The Eye of the World was intentionally written that way to appear as an homage to Tolkein. The rest of the books diverge widely.

Wait until braids start being tugged, arms are folded under breasts, and skirts are smoothed.

Hmm. I've never read WoT... I've tried with the first one, but I could never get past the second chapter. It was too tiring, with the description and such.

I've done what the OP did before... a lot. In fact, when I was little (about eight or nine), I was writing a story that was practically fanfiction... and then I got a wonderful idea that I thought would set it apart.

You know what? Two episodes later in the original source material, the exact same thing happened. I'm not sure if I predicted the future without knowing it, or if some higher power was out to crush my delicate little ego.

But I've never read WoT, so I think that if I saw the same maneuver (or whatever it is) in your story as was in WoT, I most certainly wouldn't have noticed. It really depends on if your audience would be the same as the WoT audience.

That thought had crossed my mind, but then I just dismissed it. Is that why some of the naming seems Middle Earth-like?

If you manage to get that far, you'll get to the character who keeps pulling on her braid. I didn't mind it through the first 3 books. By the 4th book, it drove me nuts.

I've since given all of my WoT books away.

You mean, like the Mountains of Mist? Sheesh. Just call it the Misty Mountains and be done with it.
