Hey Everybody,

I'm working on my first screenplay, a romantic comedy, and I hit a rough phase tonight that left me pretty shaken up. Well, it was either a phase or it was a sudden realization that I'm not a writer. Either way, it led me here, and I am glad to find this place.

I've read several of the "screenwriting guru" books, I've perused forums and articles online, but I don't know if I can call myself a screenwriter.

I'm one of those people who believes that two heads are better than one, and I'd one day like to find a serious writing partner. Until then, I'll be surfing through this forum to get a feel for what it offers and what I can offer back.

Thanks for Reading,

Imagine

Welcome ImagineAZ!

Here you'll find shoulders to lean on, ideas to perk you up, folks who'll make you laugh and some wierd stuff to fill the time.

Also SLAPPING YOU ON THE HEAD aka the knightly buffet for writers that tells you because you write you are a writer. Yes, it's that simple. All the rest is more writing, reading, rinse and repeat.

Welcome to AW! As for if you're a writer or not, only you can answer that question. Remember, all writers are insecure. I teach composition and I've been published several times (poetry and short stories). I still ask myself if I'm any good at it. That's probably a good thing, the asking. When you question your own ability, I think it comes from a desire to improve. These boards are excellent fertilizer for the fields of improvement. Ask questions. There's always someone who can answer them. I've done it, and help has arrived like a calvary charge.

I have rough patches like that about five or six times a day. :) I read On Becoming a Novelist by John Gardner and it really helped me. You may be writing a screenplay, but I bet it would still reassure you a bit to read it.

Also, welcome!

Heron, I think getting to the point where I viewed myself as a true screenwriter is what led me to the horror that it was perhaps time to start over (abandon Story A and start Story B.)

Hehe, I hear ya caromora.

I have rough moments, but this moment was like "Good grief, what was I thinking? All that time wasted and there's no story here."

Appalachian Writer,

I really do want to ask some questions...I'm just taking some time to make sure I know what I want to ask. I'm checking out others' questions and focusing my thoughts.

Thanks much for the support, everybody.

welcome! There is a lot of info here. Bless you for taking the time to see what is already here instead of blasting away. But don't be bashful about asking. :)

Hey Everybody,

For what it's worth, I've been engaged in a few little discussions on this site the last couple days, my imagination has been stimulated, and I think I may have re-found my story. It's still the same two characters, but their situation and dynamic is much different, which has opened up a whole new Act II.

Thanks for being here, everybody :)

Hi Imagine. I'm a bit late, but let me welcome you here, too. There's lots of information, if you search the forums, and plenty of people who can answer your questions if you can't find what you're looking for.

Best of luck with Story A or B, whichever one keeps you going.
