Oh yeah, I remember him freaking out on NB's blog when NB described a YA novel as sexy. GJ may literally have called NB a child pornographer, or he may have just come close. He's a bit of nutter.

Kellion, yep. I was sooo angry and outraged about that. So out of line. I don't think there's a more genuinely moral agent out there than NB. I like how this @sshole takes advantage of the ones who are out there trying to help and build community. His latest target RG also seems like a fine person.

Have some new sparkly ideas to add to the new WIP! Unfortunately, it means deleting a third of what I've written so far. Fun.

My hubs is a Mac guy (He's a graphic designer) but I have always loved my PC's. My baby is fixed and is wearing the latest and greatest in Spam and Antivirus wear for this season. LOL Just so glad we have a house full of computers that I could use to circumvent into mine!

Trying to write today. Am doing it a little different, just going through and writing out various scenes I jotted down. I will cut and paste them when needed, but for now, at least I'm writing!

What really made me want to be more honest and upfront was rereading the thread with Cindy Pon and Hannah M's pub rejection stats. They were so uplifiting that I realized that I needed to be out there with it! lOL
Humm when I was in query hell, I posted some rejections and others I just didn't bother. I think I was more disheartened than anything else. Just couldn't be bothered keeping track of a never-ending stream of rejections. Though editor rejections sting a little more

(no offense intended, I like the burn of jealousy. Is motivating!)
Haha! Before I got an agent I was TOTALLY envious of people in the no news thread because a lot of them had agents already. I wanted to join but felt I had to get an agent first so I could 'graduate' onto that thread, wierd, no?

I'm quite private about the submissions process, too, but it's also not on the forefront of my mind right now. My current ms is and it's a blessing to have that distraction.

I'm not anonymous on here, either, and I've been pre-emptively cautioned by more than one professional source to not talk too much about the submission process in public places. Which works for me, since I'm somewhat tight-lipped anyway.

I do love hearing and sharing good news, though.
PPPPHHH if I were EVER lucky enough to get a six figure publishing contract, I'd post my rejections too! But I never thought SM'srejection stats were all that impressive--not after trying to get published myself

Why were you cautioned not to share?

Hey has anyone ever gotten the 'oh we have something similar' reject (of course someone on here has ) THAT one makes me really cringe *YOUCH! why didn't I get there sooner!*

Soulcascade, I just got the "something similar" rejection. What can you do?

Per SM, there was a very annoying article in WSJ about the end of the slush pile on Friday, and it quoted as shocking SM's "rejected by 15 agents" stat. Er, so?

I didn't want to sound like a baby, but I was a little saddened by the Tenth Circle too. It's like I finally got by the bouncer and now I find out all the cool people are in the VIP room. But we're all cool! And they share their premium bottle service with us, so I can't complain.

I KNOW people are *shocked* SM got rejected by "so many agents" um, her stats are actually pretty stellar, and she didnt' even send her WIP out to that many people!

HAHA, my Grammy and I watched the Smeyer/Oprah interview, and when she said her stats and Oprah made it sound like the Impossible Dream, even my Grammy went, "Shoot, that's nothing! Look at what you went through!" LOL

And I'll admit I read Smeyers website, and I think she even sent to small pubs as well as agents. Her whole story is miraculous considering she never intended to write.

And JK Rowling's stats are far more depressing of what she went through....giving us all more hope!

I love reading authors(big and smalls) pub stories. that was what was awesome about Stephen King's On Writing, especially the fact he was going to trash Carrie, and his wife dug it out of the trash.

I just feel fortunate that so many of you AWer pubbed writers shared your stats on here, so I could read them and feel pumped. You hear one or two "sold within a month, a week, etc" and you start to feel that is the norm.

If it helps, my pub passes had more to do with them wanting to take the story in a different direction. I think this is because the novel is actually quite difficult to put in one box (not quite romance, not quite literary, not quite historical, etc.). The editor who specialized in romance wanted it to be more romantic. The editor who specialized in upscale literary wanted it to be more...you get the idea. Luckily, the publisher we closed the deal with didn't specialize in any particular genre. They are primarily interested in the voice of the book regardless of whether its dark or quirky.

Your book's perfect home is out there. Believe and breathe.

That's awesome!

What really sucks is when you're in the dating world and on submission. I used to say it sucked to get rejected by the male population and the agent world in the same day! LOL

You get so tired of the "he's just not in to you OR your manuscript!" LOL

Am home today! Woohoo! Boss called at 7 this morning to tell me she was calling a snow day. Man I love my job! LOL

Now I am seriously going to try to get some word count in. Hubs is downstairs on his computer, niece came over and is entertaining the boys, so I have "me" time. Now someone just turn off my internet and I'll be productive! LOL

And I totally agree we need a dating service for MS!! Course EVERYONE would be trying to get tall, dark and handsome and that would leave all the chubby, balding, broke ones! LOL

Yes! I got Scrivener last spring and love it so much I use it for almost everything—from my kids' school projects to stuff for the non-profit I'm involved in, to all my household info. It's such a brilliant way to organize a bunch of separate documents, yet within one document.

And for writing, I love the research feature and the way I can keep copies of old drafts in there to refer to, pictures, etc. Also, I'm a pantser, but titling the different scenes I write means it almost outlines for me, though of course I move them around a lot. Love how easy that is, too!

Kind of interesting, kind of annoying, not entirely accurate.
Thanks!

Agreed, I get more pumped seeing (our own AWer) say Cindy Pon's stats, or Stephen King or Rowling, That's more realistic in my opinion. LOLOL @ your grandma's reaction! Priceless

That gives me hope HC! My 2 passes (so far) have been 'we have something too similar' which makes me wonder (I admit, prematurely) whether ALL of my rejections will be like that *pant pant shifty eyes etc*

Is it pathetic that the Newbery, Printz, Caldecott, and other ALA announcements are making me feel particularly wistful today? It's such a reminder of how very, very distant my dream remains.

ETA: Ack. I just admitted it. My dream is not only to be published, but someday (not this current submission, but someday) win a Newbery. I have many, many circles of hell ahead of me.

Hey it's okay to admit it! Dreams are meant to be big, I dream of being on the NYT bestseller list. I was surprized that book got the Printz award, I tried reading it and just could not get into it...
