I'm starting to get all depressed and dejected again, because not only has it been a few days without any sorts of rejections, I'm too frustrated with my query sitting in Query Hell where it feels like it's getting nowhere and me editing out on my own to send it off again.

Not to mention, it's the end of the semester, and I'm stressed out at other stuff already.

Extra sparkly happy dust for Jenn and YA! Don't go discounting your chickens before they lay an egg. Hmmm, I should just delete that last part, but I won't.

Yeah, we can invite a couple of editors to one of our hell parties, and, you know, like slip something in their drinks, and read them a trumpted up horoscope while somebody is flashing a color wheel in their faces, and then we can all start dancing around nekkid in glow paint under a black light, while the scented candles burn inside the pentagram, because they take the stink away from the incense burners that are being waved around by the chanting monks.

Then...we shove a whole bunch of generic contracts in their faces that we've already filled out (you know the ones you get at the stationary store), then give them a custom-made pens to scribble their little names on the fine dotted line on the last page, and everybody signs one, dates, it, and witnesses everybody all over the damn place. Halleluiah, brothers and sisters! We HAVE arrived.

Hey, that'll work!

Don't tell anybody, but that's my Plan C.

So......first Wednesday in five weeks WITHOUT a rejection!!!!! HOOORAY!!!!!!! :-)

Plus, I feel totally jazzed because I have a game plan if things don't pan out with the current editors who have the ms in hand. And...even though I REALLY want one of them to buy the book, of course, it still feels so good to HAVE A PLAN. I have figured out something I can DO. This is such a relief. I know it's still all completely subjective, etc., etc., but somehow doing something to (hopefully) improve the book makes me feel more in control. Like I'm upping my chances somehow.

{{{{Hugs}}}}} to all of you who fell to the Weds curse this week...maybe, since I was the one who started the damn thing to begin with, it'll be broken now that I've had one Weds in the clear? Let's hope!!!!! :-)

Wha? Ohhhhh, that was the backup plan. Dayum. You know how hard it is to find monks on such short notice? *ties them up and puts them in the corner just in case*

Okay then.

Tri, lol!

Tracy, yay for backup plan!

I'm surprised I haven't heard anything yet on this round of subs. I got 3 passes in my first week last fall so the silence is unnerving. But... the new WIP is flying along, and I have a good feeling about it, especially since my agent said it's the sort of thing editors love. Plus I heard back from one beta on another project and I'm feeling good about that one too. I wonder how long this positivity will last....

Ink, I have noticed a similarly stark difference between the response times on the fall sub vs now. I had heard back from almost everybody by the four-week mark last time. This time it's crickets at nine weeks.

I got responses much faster than I expected. We're at 5 weeks today and have heard from almost everyone (only 1 left!). Of course they're all rejections so who knows if fast is good or bad. LOL

I have a good feeling about today. Somebody is getting good news in here. I feel it.

Come on, Thursday - Hell needs a book deal!

My agent basically told me that we won't hear anything more this week, and I have to say, it's actually kind of a relief. "Anticipating" hearing news is so exhausting. I'm happy I get to take the rest of the week off!!!

Plus, I suddenly have a lot to do between possible revisions for WOS and actual writing for WIP. Oh, AND some stuff for my magazine job. It's nice to be busy!

I really hope Jenn's good news vibe pans out for somebody today. That would be awesome!!!!

Ooooo, good news! Who wants an offer today? I'm out of the running so one of the rest of you will have to do it.

If anyone gets good news and it's super secret, at least tell us that you have super secret good news so that we know to trust Jenn's hunches...

Is it bad if I'd consider "good news" to be a rejection?

((Svart)) no news is hard. Take from someone whose last submission fizzled: You might be hoping for ANY ANSWER, but although a "no" ends some of the agony, it gets you nowhere.

How about we define good news as "material request," "editorial interest," "getting additional reads," "going to acquisitions meeting," "revision request" or "have multiple offers, each involving truckloads full of cash."

Not much to report on the offer end. I'm way too early. But I did compile a suggestion list for my agent (a big one), and I made up my own second tier list. I'll send my agent her stuff, and keep mine in secret reserve. Basically, I've received Rs from second tier pub houses (three of them), stating that their lists are full for this year and next. Gak. I did not like the looks of those comments. I hope this is not some evil trend.

On a bright spot I just finished my YA fantasy, Screamcatcher, ending it today at 64,600. Elapsed time--about 47 days. I need a query and a synopsis now--then some rewriting and editing.

Tri--red-shifting for a short TV break.

Awesome on the YA finish, Tri! That is good news. ****YAY*****

Lists full? That is not good news. I do suspect that lists may be a bit backlogged if fewer titles are being released but what's wrong with 2012?

Fortunately, these claims came from smaller houses, and I'm sure not all of them are filled up. The big NCY houses and imprints are probably steaming right along, and the evidence does point to this with all the recent buys. PM keeps a pretty good rap sheet on everything going to print.

Hi guys, I've put myself on restriction from AW until I get my revisions done, but popped in here and read yesterday's posts to give my brain a break, and . . . you guys almost made me pee my pants. Tri, your blind/ drunk editor post made me laugh harder than I have in weeks. Thanks!

Off I go to get antibiotics and ice cream, then back to revising. Here's hoping for good news for one of you!
