Oooh Red!! Just remember, they don't want to "talk" about it sucking. Even if he just wants to talk about revisions or something, it's because you're awesome!

(And my plan is all coming together. Mwahahahaha!)

Ah, yes, the evil plan coming to fruition. I certainly hope so. It's both a publisher and an editor I would love to have.

So he asked what other UF projects I have ideas for or in the works, and I listed them off. And then about half an hour later, I had to email back and say, "Oh, I kind of forgot to mention that I have 40K of the sequel to the book on sub written, too, but it's this hideously apocalyptic scenario, so...I dunno."

Like you're not supposed to get excited...HAH! Yeah, just, you know, be all calm and don't think about it, 'kay?

Hey, he asked what other urban fantasy ideas you had?!!!! Now that has to be a good sign.

But don't get excited.

On the plus side Red, you got all the house stuff done without the editor stuff hanging over your head. (Try picturing it as a cartoon cloud of doom threatening to rain down on you. That should help you keep your excitement to a minimum....)

I'm not on sub yet, but I recently sent a second book to my agent and realized that it doesn't exactly get easier once you get the agent . . . I'm nervous that she'll hate it.

Not that I'm not grateful/excited/happy/etc.

And--the rewrite is in The Agent's hands.

Augh. I'm going to go jump off a bridge now. Or make an extra-large GT. One of the two. I think. My brain is:

This is my first book--rewritten now for the eighth time. Just call me stubborn.

I know exactly what you're feeling. I gave a new book to my agent about seven weeks ago and I don't know if she's read it yet. It's killing me.

And I'm spinning out horrible scenarios, of course. We're on sub with another book, and since I gave her the new one, the subbed one has racked up a bunch of editor rejections.

So I'm nervous that either a) she is avoiding the new book because she's soured on the old one, or b) she hates the new book and doesn't want to tell me because the old one hasn't sold yet and she's sparing my feelings.

Of course I have no basis to think either of those are true and should probably just take at face value that she told me it would take a while to get to the new book because her reading pile is huge.

Still .....

Blah.

Has anyone else's agent taken a long time to read your new work?

Can you give her a call and just talk to her? Part of what agents do is support and encourage, right? Seven weeks is a long time. She wouldn't want you to be stressing because of course that makes it that much harder for you to be working on new books for new sales down the road.

Hang in there!

I just sent my agent my latest MG ms today. I feel your pain. She's only seen the one YA. She says she's really looking forward to reading it, but is very backlogged right now. The YA goes out after Labor Day.

Has anyone ever died of waiting?

I think I'm the most impatient person on the planet. I'm going to get some milk for my oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies and wallow in my most prominent character flaw.

Elisabetta, yeah that's what I'll need to do after Labor Day. Actually, I've been in touch with her quite a bit since she's had the book, but it's usually to talk about editor comments on the subbed book. I usually raise the new one and get a lot of apologies about her not having gotten to it yet. But at least she's always responsive when I call or email, which is good.

Wordwrestler, pass those cookies this way. Thanks.

Lol, I'm def. not the most impatient person on the planet, but, boy, am I good at spinning those scenerios. Sounds like you're the same way, Mike. A million different things could be going on - and we've imagined them all. Unfortunately, I stick to the ones with bad endings rather than the one where she falls over from the magnificence of my ouvre.

I'm supposed to get notes on the second ms this week. I know they'll be full of good things (revision-wise). I just hope she feels like the book is worth the effort.

Yay for going out on sub, WW!!

Yum, oatmeal-chocolate-chip cookies. One of my favorites, and so nutritious. Well, they are nutritious, right? Oatmeal? Dark chocolate?

It sounds as if your agent is taking good care of you, Mike. I guess we all just have to take a few days off for the Labor Day weekend. Put away our white shoes and all.
