I've been to many of the National Parks. Awesome.

Yellowstone, Glacier National, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, are the ones that come to mind.

I was at Yosemite a few years back, mind blowing w/ its beauty. Thank God there was enough foresight that many years ago to preserve it. I can't imagine it any other way...undisturbed, forever.

::sigh::

This is not, as has been pointed out, P&CE. It is also not TIO. It's not gonna get moved to TIO, either, if I have anything at all to say about it - and I do.

If you - any of you - ain't got no love for your country - be it the US or any other - then don't come in a thread called 'What do you love about your country?' and try to stir crap.

Just. Don't.

Do. Not.

I ain't callin' out no names, but each and every single one of you know the rules around here. We do not call one another names.

'K?

Thnx.

Bye.

I love that you can be in S. CA, on the beach and a few hours later, in the mountains. I'm not talking about just any mountains, either. The Sierras. 14,000 elevation, if you'd like.

You can go another direction and be in the desert. That's just one state.

You can go to the south and feel as if you're in another country, different accent, different food, different culture. Same w/ Maine, can't understand 'em. They say 'eh, too! Must be 'cause they're so close to Canada.

So, you deal w/ it.
You're all entitled to your notion of freedom. I'm entitled to my notion that it doesn't exist. End of story.

And Jean, what the hell? I've been greeted with nothing but "rough and tumble" in this thread. Perhaps you can break your gaze from that Norman Rockwell painting long enough to back the hell off. You don't know me, yet you are jumpin' all over my shit.

And yeah, to all, I shouldn't have posted my opinion here. I'll admit, I figured I'd get some sass. But I had no idea it would be so offensive to so many.

May the thread get back on topic. I'm out.

Peace,

I loved visiting Yellowstone as a kid. I spent an entire summer there, camping out. I've never been so close to a moose before, and seen wild ferrets.

I was there just before it burned. We could see the smoke all the way in Douglas, which is at the southeastern corner of the state. Yowza.

Haven't been back, but I bet it's regained it's splendor.

Oh, and I love Dunkin' Donuts! Especially the coffee. I used to live on that stuff. Extra large, please!

I love the two finger wave you get out in rural areas. The one where you don't take your hands off the wheel, and it doesn't matter if you don't know each other...you wave just the same.

Now, see it depends what part of the US you're in whether that happens more, or less. Interestingly enough, it also varies w/ being greeted in general in passing on the street.

That's part of the mixed bag of this country, it's different, everywhere. You never know what you're going to find.

One exception to that rule, most cities are rabid about their sports teams. And, I mean rabid.

That means, football, baseball, hockey, basketball. All except soccer. Even Beckham hasn't made that sport too interesting here.

Me too! I have citizenship in over 28 countries by virtue of dual citizenship (British/American). I can also get passports for Ireland, Canada, and Australia if I wanted.

I like people, and people make countries. The landscapes of hills, valley's, cities, rivers, lakes, are all parts of the makeup of a ecosystem that each country has that people can enjoy.

So, I like each country and all peoples equally. Hard to choose just one country.

I love how it doesn't matter to anyone that I have no clue what or where my family came from, and I love that my parents raised me to think of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as my ancestors.

I think it was a good opinion. I don't share it, but I see why you have it, and I don't see why people are upset about it.

Fundamentally, you didn't say you have a bad country - you said your definition of "love" is much stricter than patriotism or nationalism can meet. I get that, and I respect it.

But maybe you could just tell us what, if anything, you think is cool. Can your country at least meet that bar?
