2006 Call for Submissions By Bonnie Boots
Dear Writers,
We are very excited to introduce "2006-- The Year." 2006 will be comprised of 12 issues and we will need your help to make sure each one is jam-packed with the high quality writing our readers deserve and demand. Please read our submission guidelines carefully and study our editorial calendar. Submissions should be sent to: happy@newyear2006
Writer's Guidelines: 1) 2006 favors an upbeat, positive attitude. Material that is enthusiastic and encouraging gets our attention. 2) Talk up, not down, to our readers. Yes, 2002 through 2005 published plenty of downbeat stories, but that's not us. 2006 is a brand new slate. Our readers want ideas and information that inspires and motivates. 3) Write with courage. 2006 isn't for writers that want to "play it safe." We find writers inspired by deep feelings and convictions put more power and passion into their writing. 4) Offer us fresh, new ideas. 2006 isn't yet locked in to any particular style or agenda. We're eager to find writers that can show us new ideas, new ways, and new ideals. If you're a new writer, you may be just what we're looking for! 5) Please do not submit to 2006 if you are the "next" Steven King or J.K. Rowling. If, however, you are confident and complete in yourself, we encourage you to try your luck with us. We are always seeking writers that have a strong sense of self, that value their own ideas and attitudes, and are secure enough to put it in writing. 6) If at first you don't succeed, try, try us again. Don't assume that just because we didn't pick you up on your first try, you're not for us. 2006 favors writers with the gumption to keep after us, even if we appear to be ignoring them. We know from past experience that some of our best writers will turn out to be people we initially overlook.
2006 Editorial Calendar: We're open to material that relates to an issue's theme in any way. 2006 wants a strong mix of fiction and nonfiction as well as poetry, plays, and even copywriting. In short, if it can be written, and written well, 2006 is eager to have it.
Issue One: theme is "New Beginnings." Issue Two: theme is "Planning for Progress." Issue Three: theme is "Doing the Groundwork." Issue Four: theme is "Feed Your Dreams." Issue Five: theme is "Budding Talent." Issue Six: theme is "Growing Opportunities." Issue Seven: theme is "Ripening Abilities." Issue Eight: theme is "Reaping What You Sow." Issue Nine: theme is "To Market, To Market." Issue Ten: theme is "Harvesting the Fruits of Your Labor." Issue Eleven: theme is "Restocking Your Storehouse." Issue Twelve: theme is "Restoration and Celebration."
