Finding the Bacon
By Meg Weaver

Hi everybody,

Again, our researcher Ginny McCracken has found a set of publications with a common theme: Creative work -- except for popular “lad magazine” MAXIM, of course.  (Sometimes, I wonder about Ginny’s thinking even though I’ve known her for over thirty years!)

But the first magazine on her list, SUNSHINE ARTIST, points out that you can’t judge a book by its cover – or a magazine by its title.  SUNSHINE ARTIST is *not* about artists, or paintings, or creative techniques.  It publishes articles about working the art festival circuit.  The editor even asks for travel and business articles – with a focus on helping those who make a living selling their wares at art festivals.  As I clicked through past articles on their website, I even found one about keeping your RV in shape.

TEA, A MAGAZINE gives you a clue what it’s about in the editor’s description of the publication: “...for its cultural significance in art, music, literature, history and society.”  Gives you any fresh ideas?

So, when you go looking for new markets, look way beyond the title and you may find markets you never would have thought of.

Promoting Your Prose
By Mary Emma Allen

CHECK OUT YOUR LIBRARY

When you're looking into promotions for your book, consider your library. Yes, they may be interested in purchasing a copy for their shelves. They usually will accept a donated copy with pleasure.

However, by coordinating with your local library and even regional ones, you may gain more publicity in the form of talks, readings, and workshops. Your library maybe one that regularly offers these events. If they don't, they may be receptive to suggestions you have about programs.
