Finding the Bacon Hello fellow
writers, As I was editing
Ginny’s selections this week (Ginny McCracken is one of Wooden Horse’s
researchers and she is the one who helps me select the magazines for this
column) I was struck by how many ways writers can make someone else happy. Look at our
selections: Writers for ABILITIES and ALIVE can help people with disabilities
live better lives; writers for YOGA JOURNAL can help bring peace and contentment
into all our lives and FUNNY TIMES, well... we all need to laugh, don’t we? I can even
squeeze THE ABA JOURNAL into this premise: We can help young lawyers in the
beginning of their careers, to start out in the right direction. In the rush of
learning our craft, learning to write the perfect query letter and dealing with
rejections, I think we need to take some time to realize how much good writers
do. Think about it. THE ABA

Overseas Success There are many pitfalls when you market overseas and it’s worth avoiding as many as you can if you want to sell your work. The following tips should help you get an editor’s favourable reaction. 1. Be aware that you are the outsider, the stranger. What you do at home in the U. S. of A. for your editors might well be incorrect, annoying or even offensive to a British or South African editor. Do your research, get the market guidelines and be very polite and careful. Formal and friendly is the way to go, but no lined, coloured paper, fancy fonts or cheery greetings; be business-like. To read the rest of this article, click here. To read past issues, click here. |
