For the Media A few quick facts about Absolute Write: We launched in 1998. Absolute Write was originally a single page meant to promote Jenna Glatzer's own writing. The page was curiously popular, and she was inundated with questions about how to break into the writing business. She answered these questions in a "Frequently Asked Questions" page, but the list of questions kept on growing. Eventually, she bought the domain AbsoluteWrite.com and began sharing articles and interviews about all areas of writing. For a year, she licensed the content to WriteRead.com, but they declared bankruptcy at the end of 2001. Determined not to let Absolute Write go quietly, Glatzer regained control of the site and it has flourished ever since. In 2006, Jenna Glatzer transferred ownership of Absolute Write to MacAllister Stone. The site contains more than 1,000 pages of content (we've lost count). It contains articles, columns, interviews, message boards, classifieds, announcements, and writing markets and contests. The Absolute Write Newsletter and the Absolute Markets Newsletter launched in 2001. The Absolute Write Newsletter has almost 80,000 opt-in weekly subscribers, and the Absolute Markets Newsletter has almost 35,000 opt-in subscribers. Absolute Write also offers a premium markets newsletter that includes exclusive content and calls for writers. Our business model has evolved through the years. Like many others, we initially expected advertising to cover our expenses. While it does help, we've expanded to offer software, online courses, e-books, and a premium markets newsletter. We hire writers to write and edit for individuals and corporations. We've also asked for contributions from our subscribers, and although most other e-zines have failed when they've tried similar tactics, our subscribers responded to our call and made contributions to help us keep going.
