Hexcuse me but I'll decide whether to let my kidlets read about gay penguins, TYVM. I don't need any authority to do it for me.

OK I'm really confused. Does the book describe gay penguin sex acts? I'm putting this on my list. It will add variety to my daughters but male seahorses give birth smartypants remarks.

Stupid question.

How can a book be 'banned' when I can buy it on Amazon ???

Or by banned, do we just mean that some nutball group without any real authority has decided to 'ban' the book?

Or that the government just refuses to sponsor the book in any libraries and schools?

EDIT: I guess it is the latter reason.
*sigh*

No sex acts, just a really cool true story. My kids loved it.

Incidentally, my library has it and keeps repurchasing it, though it has gone missing several times.

People love it so much they want to keep it for their very own, huh?

The books are being banned from US libraries and schools. They're still being printed and sold, however.

It doesn't even say it was ever banned, just that it was the most often requested to be banned or restricted.

In fact, the whole article never says anything was banned, just that 84 requests for banning or restrictions were successful in 2008. I'd be interested to know the split between those 2 categories.

My library system has several books on the 'restricted' list (parental permission required for minors to check out) mostly for sexual reasons. I gave my kids permission to check out any book in the library and never worried about it again.
