PLEASE! PLEASE PLEASE! Tell me I'm not alone in this madness!

I pre-ordered in July and it finally arrived on my Kindle and it is EVERYTHING you'd expect a fantasy novel written by a supermodel to be! Whether you are expecting the worst thing you've ever read or some bizarre genius you're right!!!

I'm only on chapter 1, but please- join the insanity!

I'll have to pass. She irritates the snot out of me in just about every way there is to do so without actually meeting.

I do enjoy Talk Soup's take on her, though.

Maryn, wondering what made you want to read it

Well I should have prefaced this thread with saying I bought the book because I thought the book would be so monumentally bad as to be genius. And so far I am not wrong.

It's INSANE.

As long as you can afford to buy it for its splendid awfulness, enjoy! I just hope sales don't encourage her, you know?

Maryn, not a fan

LOL! I was looking at the Goodreads page for Modelland and there was a post by someone who worked at a bookstore. They were appalled to receive 30 copies of the book. They wanted to know what they were going to do with so many!

Parts of it aren't so bad but I think it reads more like a middle grade book than YA except for the occasional near porny descriptions of things...

OK, the description from Amazon. Prepare to ROFL:

No one gets in without being asked. And with her untamable hair, large forehead, and gawky body, Tookie De La Crème isn’t expecting an invitation. Modelland—the exclusive, mysterious place on top of the mountain—never dares to make an appearance in her dreams.

But someone has plans for Tookie. Before she can blink her mismatched eyes, Tookie finds herself in the very place every girl in the world obsesses about. And three unlikely girls have joined her.

Only seven extraordinary young women become Intoxibellas each year. Famous. Worshipped. Magical. What happens to those who don’t make it? Well, no one really speaks of that. Some things are better left unsaid.

Thrown into a world where she doesn’t seem to belong, Tookie glimpses a future that could be hers—if she survives the beastly Catwalk Corridor and terrifying Thigh-High Boot Camp. Or could it? Dark rumors like silken threads swirl around the question of why Tookie and her new friends were selected . . . and the shadows around Modelland hide sinister secrets.

Are you ready? Modelland is waiting for you. . . .

At least we can be certain this stuff was not ghostwritten, or was ghostwritten by someone who knew exactly what people would expect and ran with it with all the love to cheese.

Also, how do you pronounce Modelland?

Intoxibellas? Is this supposed to be a funny book or is the humor unintentional? Yikes!

I'm guessing it's pronounced on the "Alice in Wonderland" principle, i.e."model - land.". It must look darned peculiar to Spanish speakers, though.

I just finished the Thigh High Boot Camp chapter! And THBC is as cheesy as it sounds! There were three lessons but I only remember 2. Never share make-up and never buy knock-offs.

Ok- as the only person actually reading the book I can say that the Barnes&Noble reviews are crap! Go to Amazon and read the all the good reviews and then read all the bad reviews. They are BOTH right!

It's the strangest book I've ever read in my life. It's pure unfettered imagination and it's insane and cheesy and as bad as one would think it is but it's better than anyone would think too. There are so many lines and ideas and parts that are just WTFs but then it's just so creative and then it's just awful again, and then it's really readable.

I can't really explain it. It has to be read to be believed.

The worst part is that it reads like a middle grade book 90% of the time with really horrible innaprpriate (for the FEEL- it is supposed to be YA) bits thrown in. And moments that are jaw-droppingingly gross. Like overnight every girl at Modelland who survived the THBC- all their periods synced up. So the next morning they are all having cramps. WHY IS THAT IN THE BOOK????

Hi, everyone,

Just a reminder that RYFW does apply to the non-AW authors discussed in this room, as stated in the Bookclub Guidelines sticky. Please try to keep the discussion of the book and its author a little more suited to this room (as opposed to, say, Office Party. :) )

Then can this thread be ported over to OP?

I was considering it, but many of the posts (especially CheG's) are talking about the content of the book and about the ideas within it, however lightly, which is perfect for this room. Moving the thread elsewhere would be a last resort, to be done if it became clear that the discussion was never going to be a good fit for here, and I don't think we're quite at that point, yet.
