Hi everyone,

Please enjoy my review of Helsinki White by James Thompson.

Thanks,

Ethan

Inspector Kari Vaara returns in Helsinki White to set up a black-ops unit supposedly to help people enslaved in human trafficking, to be above the law, untouchable and with money to burn. In reality, the unit turns into a den of cold-blooded murders, corrupt policemen, and pretty much carte blanche psychos.

Mr. Thompson’s writing is straight-forward, yet vulgarity-ridden and dark. The reader will find the f-word in almost every other page. Murders and beheadings are described in graphic details, along with torture, and other disturbing matters.

While Inspector Vaara is engaged in his illegal, corrupt and murderous activities, a situation worsened by his health and family issues, he is drawn into the investigation of a beheading with apparent racial motives. Vaara discovers this murder ties to another important crime that rocked Finland some time ago. In between heavy drinking, by means of robberies, blackmail, torture, and help from unlikely foreign sources, Vaara draws near the discovery that may cost him more than he has bargained for.

How far will Vaara go before he realizes what has he really become? How will his new line of work affect him and his family? Who committed the horrendous murder, and how will Vaara discover the people truly responsible for it?
