Hi everyone,

Please enjoy my review of What Doesn't Kill You by Iris Johansen.

Thanks,

Ethan

What Doesn’t Kill You opens with a great action scene. A Special Operations team and an F-16 fighter jet are deployed to Sai Tam Island, China, to rescue Hu Chang, an important asset of the CIA. Hu Chang may have invented a powerful potion, which may have a great global importance. Hu Chang is wounded during the rescue operation and shortly thereafter escapes. The CIA calls Catherine Ling, a very good friend of Hu Chang, to help them find him before Hugh Nardik, a well-connected war lord finds Hu Chang.

Ms. Johansen’s writing is smooth and full of emotions. The story moves forward fast. The reader is given insight into the lives of Catherine and Hu Chang, their background, the difficult relationship of Catherine and her son, Luke. Their human side is very much a part of the plot and of the storyline as the endless action scenes.

Catherine is good at finding information, but Hu Chang is better. He refuses to allow Catherine to get involved into his life and his problems. At the same time, Nardik is making plans to use Catherine as bait to bring Hu Chang out in the open. Catherine has the same idea, putting herself willingly in the harm’s way, so that Hu Chang can come out and save her.

What is the potion that Hu Chang has invented? How will Catherine go after Nardik? What will Nardik have to use to get to Catherine?
