I just tore through Django Wexler's new "flintlock fantasy" novel, The Thousand Names, inside of 24 hours. It was my first read in that sub-genre, and well worth it. It had some of the neatest must-cheer-for characters I've read in a while. Really compelling and gripping stuff, and educational in the realm of military history.
The series is slated to have five books, so I expect there's plenty of room for what I really want - a stand-alone involving the Winter, a young woman passing for a man in the army. She wasn't the main character, but the best, IMHO.
I sent a note to Wexler through his website thanking him for the book and asking when the next was due out, and he replied within a few hours (answer: next summer). So a nice guy, too!
Highly recommended for folks who like fantasy and military history.
P.S. I found him through a post he wrote on Scalzi's blog. So now I know that guest-blogging definitely works for promotion!
