Maryn and Caleb, have you seen this? Cracks me up every time:

(Obviously I've given up working and am just eating the candy corn.)
I know it was an ad, but I kept waiting for someone to step in and yank that kid out of the store, possibly with a well placed smack on the bottom. The thought of having a child who behaved like that made my jaw ache from clenching my teeth.
Is that like when you break up with someone and they say, "You know what? No. We're not breaking up. This is just a phase of our relationship"???
Sounds familiar. For nearly TWO years I tried to break up with someone I lived with. He was that manipulative. I finally bought a house and moved...
Have a fabulous time, Rick! I am so happy for you.
Yay, Dragonfly! Very exciting!
I'm heading to one of those weddings tomorrow where I have not met a single person.
Sounds like my first wedding. I didn't know anyone except the man I was marrying.
Question... And I think blue might be able to answer this, but if anyone else can feel free to chime in. Have any of you wrote a nonfiction book proposal before? Or Do any of you know of a good reference for nonfiction book proposals?
I'm afraid I'm not much help on this. I researched publishers for wine books, found the one I wanted to pitch, checked their website, didn't find submission guidelines so I called them. I ended up speaking to the editor who was excited about the topic and asked me for an introduction, TOC and first three chapters. I sent those to him and that started the ball rolling.
One thing I would suggest is to consider the scope of your audience. If you think it has wide appeal, go for an agent. But if you feel it will be somewhat limited, or less than a certain number, consider going straight to publishers who specialize in your subject matter. My book is selling very well for non-fic and topic, but I still don't think it's enough to attract an agent. Plus, I like having the extra 10%...when I can actually wrestle the check out of the pub's hot little hands.
Fire, I always love the stories of your editing.
Suki, feel better!
Safe travels, Lil, and have fun!
