Speaking of, moving 8 times in 4 years kinda cured me of homesickness. That and the fact that my old neighborhood, while never great, is multiple crime scenes waiting to happen now. I'm very glad my folks have moved to a senior apartment complex. We've lived in our house for 24 years now. Whenever I return from travel and make that right turn onto our street, I feel invisible knots inside me relax.

I had this same nagging voice when I filed for divorce. It was scary and maybe stupid and I felt kinda like Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade where he has to take that leap of faith.

You just move forward. Right or wrong, always forward. As long as you don't look back, don't regret, then there is no wrong choice.

Oh, I so understand this attachment to place or people thing.

I have learned, through trial and error after moving back and forth across the Atlantic a few times, that England is my home. I'm a Brit and that's not going to change.

Oh, and yeah, growing up sucks.

Chicken tikka masala and naan bread for dinner tonight, I'm just going to put that naan under the grill now.

Crazy, busy day, pretty much 10 hours with an hour break. Still, got a lot done.

It's kind of awesome, actually. Maine feels right to me in a way nothing else ever has.

Meep. It might be a while. That one needs a total rewrite now, and I'm waffling on how far into it I want to get before I know how much (and hopefully why) editors hate SWORD.

Hilariously, I once wrote a college paper for an Anthro class comparing the Klingons in TOS to the Russians during the Cold War period.

Mr. Sunna was unamused.

It's kind of rough -- I don't do idiom very well. But it basically comes out to "We're a strange couple, but not that strange."

my home here and i've loved the little
nest we've built for ourselves. i'm a cali
girl through and through. (and i never miss
LA, sorry blondie, haha! tho i grew up in the
burbs there.)

i associate homesickness with a smell for
sure, and often missing on a visceral level.

had a lovely morning volunteering. was able
to tell the music teacher and the science teacher
(who came to get coffee) how much my bubs
enjoy their classes. which was very nice.

the bubs, including my munchkin who is 7,
got to dissect pig hearts last week!

enough to send them to private school.
they aren't doing dissection yet as far as
i know in public elementary.

and i personally never dissected until i
was in biology in 10th grade.

this private school is "affordable" and
i'm grateful we can give this to them. still
angry and heartbroken over the state of
cali's k-12 tho.

they'll be entering public school again come
tween time.

Oh yes! This reminds me. I don't know when you're out of school, but this goes for you and any other purgy with wandering feet. I've now got a free room until November. And a second bathroom! Anyone who feels inclined to come see the sights of the Bay Area is free to drop by until then.

ETA: Actually I guess that invitation's just for the ladies. Not sure how hubs would feel about me hanging out with a dude while he's at work all day.

I have an obscenely comfortable couch. And a Rosie. And an LGwenn and LWalker if we can reel them in with promises of not being boring. And DC. And a New York overnight trip by train.

You know, I've actually never really been to California. Don't tempt me, because I may take you up on that.

Cindy, that sounds like an awesome school.

And thanks for letting me rant, guys. Feeling better already. Apparently deep down I'm still an angsty teen. Which would explain all that black eyeliner I'm wearing.

By the way, Tas and Caleb and everyone else who likes tea, I brought some seriously awesome tea home with me from Germany. We have this tea and spice store, which is out at the ass end of nowhere, but man, they have some awesome teas. Never been much of a fan of rooibos tea, but I think I've been converted. Brought home a green roibos with lemon, mango, cactus and cornflower in it that's just delicious. Also some nice chai, a green tea with jasmine and a plum cinnamon rooibos in addition to some spices. I think I'll be in good writing fuel for a while.

ETA: Also, did I mention the irony of how Para is apparently the only Brit on the planet who doesn't like tea? Incomprehensible.

This is me, too. Except I didn't really have an anchor growing up. My dad was in the service when I was little and we traveled and moved a lot up until I was 5. When I was 9 we moved again for about 7 years, but moved again to So Cal where I lived for 22 years. I've been in Nevada for 21 years. I'd miss Nevada if I left and I have some nostalgia for So Cal at times. I miss the beach, but I have to live in the desert for health reasons.
