I'm reading Haunting Jordan by P J Alderman. Not the kind of thing I normally read, but I picked up Ghost Ship by the same author and enjoyed it so much. Too bad it was the second one in the series and I read it first lol. Now I'm reading Haunting, which is the first.

Yeah, I'm definitely buying that one soon. :D I thought it was kind of a prequel, though. :/

Oh! OK. Now I'll stop wondering whether there are things I would only 'get' if I'd read THATC, haha. :) I love Robin McKinley's style!

Beauty was great. I've reread it a few times. Deerskin was very good, but a difficult and somewhat disturbing read. It's the only fairytale-retelling of hers I haven't reread.

I also enjoyed her Sunshine.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being. A somewhat unusual, but fascinating book.

Finished Dead Beat by Jim Butcher. I really enjoy this series.

A man called Dave by Dave Pelzer.
I don't know how this got in my hands but it's very sad!

I'm really enjoying it; very rich with story and language.

The first issue of a new print magazine called Cavalier Literary Couture, which publishes a mixture of poems and shorts. Check it out if you get a chance, "The Child Doll" by Alissa Nutting is quite good. Unlike most literary mags, this one is glossy and full color with lots of photographs. I've already checked, it's a non-paying market.

I've also just started Dean Koontz's latest Frankenstein novel.

'The Terror' by Dan Simmons. Very good so far, with that tinge of tediousness of the rigorously-researched that I actually find kind of endearing.

I do love it when horror and history meet.

The Catcher in the Rye by Salinger. I thought it would be boring and all, but it knocks me out. It really does.

Hahahaha

Yeah, I've read Beauty (and loved it) and Spindle's End which is a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty fairytale. It's soooo good to know that there are many more books by her out there, waiting! :D

I'm on The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at the moment. I haven't read it since I was about nine and feel like it's a huge gap in my knowledge of fantasy/literature in general.

The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. I'm trying to catch up on all the classics that get assigned to school children (also on the list: Farenheit 451).

Finally got around to starting "A Game of Thrones" a couple of weeks back ... still not even half way finished. I hope I can finish it before the HBO show comes out.

Anyone read We, The Drowned by Carsten Jensen? I'm considering that once I finish The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.
